Artist's Statement
My work began as a playful exploration of a what if scenario.
What if I, as a child, had survived an apocalyptic event in which I was the only one left? After learning to physically survive in this new environment, how was I to mentally survive? I would need to rebuild my world, perhaps even my companions. Where would my imagination take me?
I would need toys…specifically dolls to react with, to use as a substitute for human contact.
My Apocalypse Dolls are rebuilt little figures from the broken bits and pieces that would have been strewn all around me.
They inspire in me hope, rebirth, love, and above all else, play.
