The Glean Program has begun for another year.  Five artists from the area were chosen to glean at the Metro Transfer Station (the city dump) for materials that they can use to create art.  Cannibals Gallery has had two artists involved with this program in the past.  You can follow the adventures of this year's artists in their blog HERE!

Call to CAP

Picture
Over 30 years ago Portland artists, seeing the devastation in their community, united to fight back against the spread of HIV. They auctioned their art to raise funds to support CAP’s mission to prevent HIV infections, support and empower people affected and infected by HIV, and to eliminate HIV related stigma and health disparities. Now, over 3 decades later the event has grown and evolved but their vision endures. Please join us for Cascade AIDS Project’s Annual Art Auction.
The CAP Art Auction will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Montgomery Park. The event is comprised of two parts: the Patron Dinner and the After Party. The Patron Dinner includes a formal dinner with a live auction and entertainment, and the After Party includes food and open bar from many of the best purveyors in town.  Artists selected to be included in the Live Auction receive two complimentary tickets to the Patron Dinner (valued at $600) and those selected for the Silent Auction receive two complimentary tickets to the After Party Event (valued at $100). Details follow on the process for selecting art and how you can be involved.

Artwork
The minimum bid for artwork is 75% of the artist’s declared estimated value. A maximum of 150 pieces of art are selected for auction, and all artwork is juried with the goal of displaying professional high quality, well-crafted art of diverse media. Only one submission may be made per artist or donor. Please note that artwork must be original; giclées, reproduction posters, and other reproduction items cannot be accepted.

All selected art will be published online with features periodically through social media and Live Auction work will appear in a printed catalog at the Patron Dinner. If you are a gallery-represented artist, and five or more artists contribute from the gallery that represents you, your art will be displayed together with prominent signage for the gallery.

To see additional Auction highlights, please visit www.CAPartAuction.org

The Glean Program
Now Open For Applications!

The GLEAN program is accepting applications for the 2016 program from artists residing in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties.

GLEAN is a juried art program that seeks to inspire people to think about their consumption habits, the waste they generate, and the resources they throw away by tapping into the creativity of artists from the Portland metro region.

GLEAN artists will be given access to the Metro Central transfer station ("the dump") for six months to glean materials to make art.  The program culminates in a formal exhibition in September.  Artists will be paid a $2,000 stipend and receive 80% commission from the sale of their art at the exhibition.

GLEAN is a partnership between Recology, an employee-owned company that manages a variety of resource recovery facilities; Metro, the regional government that manages the Portland metropolitan area’s garbage and recycling system; and crackedpots, an environmental arts non-profit.

We have gone electronic!  To apply, go to www.callforentry.org and type the word “glean” into the keyword field.  Program information will appear below.  Click on VIEW MORE INFORMATION or go straight to APPLY TO THIS CALL where you will be prompted to provide the required information.  For those unfamiliar with the process, more information can be found via the CAFÉ HELP tab in the green menu bar.

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2015.

This is Portland's LARGEST art show.  The big "400" features fancy photos from LeeAnn Gauthier and nearly 500 artists who wax creative for an art extravaganza where everything is priced at $40.

Last year, over 4,000 art pieces drew news coverage as art collectors swarmed the doors of two galleries on the top floor of Pioneer Place mall. Next door, see LeeAnn's photo transfers of cocktail & food, a world record holder for most piercings and some saucy ladies at The Sculpture Gallery.

CAP NEWS

Thanks to all of the artists who donated to the Cascade Aids charity auction, held Saturday night at Montgomery Park.  Returning after ten years to this venue, the space made for a tight squeeze for all of the spectacular work on display.  It was a tremendous effort, and finished the project for 2015 with a tented auction outside.  Thanks to Andrew Shayde for all of his energy and enthusiasm.

LeeAnn Gauthier, Jo Grishman, Kurtiss Loftstrom, Jason Berlin, Randy Moe, Sylvia Miller and Stephen Walter were all representing the Cannibals community.  Thank you all for the generous offer you made, allowing Cannibals to continue to have a presence in the Portland conversation about art.  Congratulations to them all for donating more than $4,000 to the coffers aiding those ill and in need.

Summer is almost upon us and there are so many new showings of work.  Please take the time to forward any news you may have concerning upcoming shows where we can take in the newest pieces.

Thanks.

CAP Auction
I  now have the final count on the Cannibal artists and we will be eligible to hang our own wall again this year.  Congratulations to Kurtiss Lofstrom, Jason Berlin, Jo Grishman, LeeAnn Gauthier, Randy Moe, Stephen Walter, and Sylvia Miller who all were accepted into the silent auction.  For the artists who were not accepted this year, please remember that the entry was limited, and each year there is a new curator with a new board.

Thanks for all of the consideration this year, and for the presence that you help maintain of the Cannibals community.  Pictures will be posted after the event for everyone to enjoy, and you may find the list with the offers on the CAP website when they have completed their update.
