Digging In The City Dump
The Glean project, in conjunction with Metro and Recology (the Metro Transfer Station) is holding the concluding exhibition of this season's project at Disjecta Gallery on Sept. 14 through Sept. 30. Greg Hanson, selected to participate in this six month "recycling" project, will be showing his work, along with the four other artists, in this revolutionary display of art created entirely from the materials gleaned from the "city dump" over the last half a year. The artists all applied for and received this art grant early last spring, and were all required to create ten or more pieces of work, all of which will be available at Disjecta. The show will cap this marvelous opportunity which instructs and invites the general public to rethink how they so readily discard elements from their daily lives. Greg's combinations of mundane and mysterious are dusted with the wit and irony found in many of his latest assemblage pieces using the trash that he found at the dump: old piano parts, scraps of wood, rusted metals, vintage papers, toys, glass, etc. As a Cannibals cornerstone artist, we are happy to bring our patrons to the celebration of this showing, and hope that everyone will be thinking about how to creatively address these modern issues.
