January 2013

1/2/2013

I had someone ask me the other day why I thought Cannibals had failed!  I was stunned by the question, since it had not occurred to me that losing a lease equaled failure.  It did begin a conversation that had me circling the presence of Cannibals, and its lingering impact on the fans and patrons who support it.   The same day that someone asked me to consider why Cannibals failed, another person approached me in a bakery line, and said how brilliant they thought the artists of Cannibals were, and how much they anticipated a return to a street address.  I continue to look for space to revive the doorway experience of coming to view the works. I am confident that the ongoing interest in Cannibals vision, the artists exploration of a flexible showing, and  the desire met to include artists who may not find professional exposure will take us confidently into the coming 2013 year.  I hope that everyone will continue to look for our new opening in the near future.

  2013 GLEAN

Are you a mixed media artist (or do you know of one) who uses primarily recycled materials? The Glean Program, which allows artists to go into the Metro Transfer Station (the city dump) for six months, has just opened up its application process for the third season.  Cannibals Gallery has had an artist included in this program for each of the first two seasons.  You can download the application and get further information on the Cracked Pots website.  The deadline for applications is January 31, 2013.  This is one AMAZING opportunity!

Big congratulations to David Kennedy, middle school teacher (and Cannibals patron) who just received a new classroom set of computers as a result of his winning an educational grant from Google!
