Our Show in NYC
Mark Crummett has sold a piece, as has Darlene Schaper, at the New York show with 'C.O.W. Theater Gallery. Mark Crummett will be hanging a holiday show there within the next week or so, and the remainder of the Cannibals showcase will be coming down, and returned. Stephen Rondell continues to be excited about the response of the public to Cannibals artists, and perhaps there are many more showcases in the coming year. Our thanks to Stephen and his partner, Tyler, and to Sally Cohen the angel from Larchmont who helped make this show such a success. All of those who did participate made a significant difference to the landscape of art in the theater gallery space, and have furthered the combination of performance and installation with wall, hung work...infusing the atmosphere of the viewing audience with a density of palpable artistic pressure. Stephen remarked on the hundreds, thousands of photos posted to Instagram, Twitter and the joyful discovery of this art speaking directly to their sensibility. Thanks again to everyone.
Day of the Dead
The Feature Area of the Guardino Gallery is home to the annual Day of the Dead Group show. This will be the seventh year that this ever-popular show has been produced. Thirty-four artists have interpreted this ancient ritual as their own by creating art to commemorate ancestors and departed loved ones. Some themes range from stylized and whimsical to political and painfully personal. Artists have created take offs on the traditional heart and sugar skull concepts, quilted wall hangings, puppets, collages and assemblages, just to name a few. Check out the work of these Cannibals artists: Jason Berlin, Greg Carigan, Tabor Porter and Sylvia Miller. Opening reception...TONIGHT...October 31!
Marshall Community Center
Last year the recycle community hosted a show for the holiday shopping, and Sylvia Miller, Helvi Smith, and I participated. This year it will be on the 16th of December, at the Marshall Community Center, and I will be hosting the Cannibal table again. I am not certain of the space placement, but will send more information in the December newsletter.
Hail Mary
Sadly, it has come to our attention that the ten year experience of Hail Mail, hosted by Mary Tapogna, has come to an end. She has left her space on NE Killingsworth, and will retreat for a little while to contemplate her next incarnation. I am certain of of us at Cannibals, and in the community wish her the best.
